Nia, Nia, Nia

Nia, Nia, Nia.

I often find myself thinking, “Wow, how is it that Nia is still so under-appreciated?” This question involves many factors for me and is the result of having been a teacher for several years, watching classes come and go and small groups of diehard students show up here and there.

It’s kind of fascinating actually. When I separate myself and my own needs from the equation and step into pure observer, I have to smile. About a week ago, I was telling a new student about the class and these words came out of my mouth:

“When the world finally knows Nia, it will wonder how it ever DIDN’T know Nia!”

Well, you might say, “Yeah, you love this stuff man, and so of course you’re going to feel that way.” Perhaps. Yet, that’s a very, very (I don’t use that word all that frequently. Twice in a sentence…unheard of!) mini ‘perhaps.’ There are other activities I love and that I’ve never sensed as being that impacting.

Nia is masterful: somatic conditioning combined with an abundance of creative inspiration, all woven together within the understanding that the body is the teacher and that the magic of awakening to philosophical understandings is most powerfully embraced through movement, through sensing them inside. I believe we call this embodiment.

As a Body-Mind-Spirit practice, Nia is unparalleled. Yes, for sure,  in my opinion once the world knows Nia, it will wonder how it ever managed without it.

My goal for 2014 is to do my very best to reveal to YOU just how powerful and magical Nia can be and to disintegrate any of the myths surrounding its organic, dance-like nature.

Come and join me on Saturdays at 12pm and Nikki on Thursdays at 10am.

 Happy Holidays, everyBODY! 🙂
