The Salt of the Earth

What is all the hype about a “NO Salt” diet?  For most of us the salt shaker magically appeared just an arm length away on every dining table for a majority of our lives. Then mom heard that salt was BAD and off the table it went. Mom wasn’t all wrong, just misinformed.

What is Salt anyway? Salt in it’s natural form is composed of essential minerals and trace minerals. One of the key components of salt is sodium chloride. The sodium helps to buffer harmful acids, the chloride creates HCL (hydrochloric acid) in the stomach which is vital for proper digestion. Our stomach should produce enough HCL to make an acidic soup that assist digestion by breaking down the food we consume. In addition HCL creates a first defense against any harmful bacteria or parasites in our food.

The term “ACID REFLEX” is a common household term in this day and age that is also very misunderstood. The lack of HCL in the stomach leaves food to ferment undigested. As a defense the stomach will pull minerals such as sodium, calcium, magnesium from our bones, organs and tissues therefore weakening them. The back flush that individuals experience as reflex is a combination of bile, toxins and now Lactic acid that the body has created as a last resort to help break down the food. Undigested food continues along the digestive track to the small intestines where the nutrients of the food get absorbed. In this undigested, overly acidic state the body can not absorb the minerals and nutrients.  As a result we are left malnourished, acidic  and much more susceptible to a host of infections  and a compromised immune system.

Eating good quality air dried sea salt can begin to help bring our systems back to balance!  Did you know that healthy salt supports the kidneys and adrenal glands, helps to maintain proper hydration and electrolyte balance?

There is a HUGE difference in the quality of salt that dramatically alters the way it is utilized in our bodies. Table salt has been high heated which adversely changes the molecular structure of the salt and makes it  toxic. I recommend Premier Research Labs air dried Pink Salt. It is an amazing blend of untreated solar-dried sea salts from the Mediterranean & Alaea Hawaiian pink salt. It is delicious and affordable! For more information on how to purchase the Pink Salt contact Nichole at Pilatesstudiocity@sbcglobal.net.

Healthy Tips:

  • Avoid salt that has anti clumping agents such as aluminum hydroxide, refined sugar, stearic acid, sodium ferrocyanide and calcium phosphate.
